Activities: 2/15 to 2/21

My first blog post to test the functionality of this new WordPress powered website. I am sure I will have plenty to say about all kinds of topics. So, time to start blogging.

First off it’s been a very busy week even with Monday being a day off due to President’s Day holiday. It was a busy week and a short week.

We had plenty of users needing assistance with expired passwords messages but this was an easy request to respond to and an email with directions on how to put in a new password usually did the trick.

We also had some Surface Go’s to setup. Thankfully Erik Diaz was kind enough to lend his support to prep the tablets so that there will be less time spent on configuring them for use by the final user. The Windows updates take a lot of time to do, so with Erik’s help that part is taken cared of and no time is wated with the final user waiting for Windows updates to finish.

Had my monthly meeting in the USC UTC. Lots were discussed regarding canopies for outside teaching, usefulness of Blackboard and Zoom for online teaching and an extended and spirited discussion on DCC the old TCC. Jason is a really good speaker, very eloquent and I think his concerns were heard very well by ITS senior management.

The highlight for me this week was the arrival of the United States NASA Mars rover: Perseverance and it’s sidekick helicopter: Ingenuity.

It is just amazing that we are able to send such a complex piece of hardware to another planet, millions of miles from Earth. The landing was perfectly done which shows the brilliance of the people at NASA. Thanks to the USA government for giving the funding for this endeavor. It will be an exciting next few days and weeks as Perseverance begins its mission of searching for past/ancient life on the red planet and as Ingenuity starts to test if it is really possible to fly in Mar’s thin atmosphere.

Praying for the successful flight of Ingenuity and hoping that it is possible to fly in Mars!
